Newcomer Employment Week

Newcomer Employment Week returned to the Tri-Cities in November.

The goal of Tri-Cities NEW is to support newcomers in their employment goals by creating networking opportunities among immigrants, service providers and employers. With this year’s theme on the importance of workplace culture, newcomer jobseekers will receive the opportunity to learn about the key role workplace culture has in the recruitment and retention of employees.

Tri-Cities NEW’s first-day welcome event featured a keynote speech from Maylen Crespo who immigrated to Canada in 2002 and is the Community Lead Manager with the Family Services of Greater Vancouver; an employer panel with representatives from small to large business, government and non-profit employers; a networking workshop; a speed-networking activity and a resume clinic and resource fair.

 The rest of the week was dedicated to workplace tours for jobseekers to learn more about a particular organization, their workplace culture and the recruiting process. The tours will take place at several Tri-Cities-based business and organizations across a wide variety of sectors including hospitality, education, government, retail, health, banking and self-employment.
