These groups helping Tri-City seniors will get $280K from Ottawa

Eight Tri-City groups that help and connect seniors will split $187,877 in federal funding.

On March 3, Coquitlam-Port Coquitlam MP Ron McKinnon announced the money as part of the New Horizons for Seniors Program (NHSP).

The grants through Seniors Minister Joanne Thompson come after a call for proposals last year for community-based projects that support healthy aging, prevent elder abuse, celebrate diversity and inclusion, and aid with financial security.

According to Ottawa, seniors will represent nearly a quarter of the population by 2057.

The New Horizons money is targeted at seniors at risk, including Indigenous Elders, seniors with disabilities, members of racialized and newcomer groups as well as low-income seniors.
